Design Google Drive Storage · System Design Interview

Design Google Drive StorageDesign the storage layer behind a cloud drive at Google Drive’s size: where a hundred billion files physically live, how they survive hardware failing, and how sharing decides who may read the bytes. Storage, durability and access control are the whole exercise. What it has to do

A file is stored and read back byte for byte, whatever its size

A file survives disks, machines and a whole datacentre failing

A file or a folder is shared with people or groups, and only they can read it

Scale

Users: 1 billion

Files stored: 100 billion

Bytes stored: 10 exabytes
